Frequently Asked Questions

92.5 silver, also known as sterling silver, is an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The other metals increase the hardness of the material, making it more durable than pure silver, which is too soft to be used for jewellery. 92.5% is the highest level of silver purity we can work with in jewellery-making.

Sterling silver is simply 92.5 silver. It is different from German Silver which is any metal such as copper or brass which has silver polish. It is also different from fine silver, which is 99.9% silver, but cannot be used for moulding jewellery and ornaments.

Blackened or oxidised silver is genuine sterling silver, but its surface has been deliberately darkened using a chemical treatment. This patina, a surface color that forms when silver reacts with sulphides, is a sped-up version of the natural tarnishing process. It creates a layer of silver sulphide on the metal's exterior, giving it that characteristic darkened appearance.

Quick note: While the process is often called oxidising, the term is technically incorrect. The darkening results from exposure to sulphides, not oxygen, though the term has stuck in the industry.

All our jewellery and ornaments are hallmarked with a 925 stamp, signifying the authenticity of the silver used. Genuine sterling silver jewellery will always  be marked with these three numbers or STERLING or STER.

Silver turns black due to a chemical reaction between the silver and sulphur-containing compounds in the air or other substances. This reaction forms a compound called silver sulphide, which is black and builds up on the surface of the silver. This process is commonly referred to as tarnishing. It is a natural property of pure silver, and in fact, what gives oxidised silver jewellery its unique colour.

The oxidised silver jewellery is made by tarnishing silver, that is how it achieves its darker colour. Pure silver darkens when it comes in contact with air, and so could your pure silver jewellery.

We typically use AAA CZ stones. Cubic Zirconia that are rated AAA are usually more highly polished than A grade stones.

Yes, all our items are made of pure 92.5 silver, except our serveware collection, which is made of 85% silver. Given these are heavier silver items, and also very good investment products, we have struck a balance with good design and purity, at the same time keeping the costs a little lower so as to make them accessible to more people.

We ship our orders in 3-5 business days, which means your products should reach you within 7-10 business days.
